Linguicide is also known as language genocide. It's the forced loss of a language of a people by another linguistic sect which wants to dominate, enslave and exploit the former. It is done through forced assimilation or deliberate destruction of a group of people's linguistic identity.

Local residents in the Ayapakkam Housing Board area of Villivakkam Panchayat Union in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district have voiced their opposition to the Central Government’s alleged imposition of the Hindi language by drawing kolams (rangoli) outside their homes in protest.

The kolams featured messages such as ‘Welcome Tamil language’ and ‘Stop Hindi imposition,’ voicing their dissent against the imposition of Hindi.

An ANI visual of the colourful kolams on the streets in the area has been circulating on the social media platform X.
